SINGITA EBONY LODGE

Singita Ebony Lodge, in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, has undergone a design refresh to meet the changing needs of modern guests while remaining true to the origin of the Singita story that began 30 years ago. JO ROETS

Jo Roets really took wing as an artist on the cusp of her 40th birthday. In 2017, aged 38, and after 14 years as a senior lecturer in a multimedia film school, she stepped away from academic life to focus on her own art. A year later her work was selected for three prominent South African competitions, and she won the inaugural StateoftheART Gallery Award. Other shows and accolades quickly followed, resulting in her first solo exhibition, Mantra Mãe, at StateoftheART Gallery in 2019. By 2020, recognition for her delicately considered sculptures took her work internationally.

CHIMERA GALLERY

The Chimera Gallery in Mullingar, Ireland, is surprisingly large, and shows a breadth of artistic works that belies its unpretentious setting. I spoke to the owner- gallerist Dave O’Shea about the space and the artists he represents.

SUSSURRO

If you happen to sail a dhow up the Mozambique Channel you’re sure to be lured ashore by the palm-fronded white sands you spy with your telescope - it goes without saying you must be properly equipped with a collapsable spyglass and a superior tan - and Sussurro is the beach to aim for. Set […]

Lord Randal Plunkett

Lord Randal Plunkett 21st Baron of Dunsany, County Meath, Ireland, upon inheriting the title and land from his father in 2011 turned most of the property over to rewilding. You’d think that would be the start of a jolly story where the new young Lord and his beautiful lady bring fresh life to the old estate. It should be. It could be. In almost every way, it is. But neither is it that simple.

SLOWNESS

Surrounded by fragrant lemon and fig trees on Ibiza’s quiet Northern side, La Granja was always more of a philosophy than a hotel. During the intervening years since it opened as a hotel, it spawned a design and hospitality company based on the farm's original ideals.

AGAVE ROAD HATS

Actor, composer, playwright, director, author, student of psychology, hatmaker … these are some of the titles linked to JonCha the multidisciplinary artist behind a range of hats that retail under the Agave Road label. His original interest in hat-making began on a US road trip from Austin to LA with his wife, the Swedish photographer Anna Malmberg. He found himself falling for old hats imbued with character and stories, discovered in small desert towns along the way.

Safari Girl

HELLO

I’m Bev Tucker, a lifestyle journalist living in Ireland and Africa. My ancestry is Anglo-Celtic transplanted to East and Southern Africa six generations ago, which prompted the name of this blog. Safari is a Swahili word that means 'to travel away from home'. I grew up in various far-flung corners of Africa where I had the privilege of being taken on long expeditions to game reserves and other interesting places in our beloved and trusty family Land Rover loaded with everything we'd need for the duration. These were my first safaris and sparked my love of nature and an enduring curiosity about the world.
